Donor Requirements
Looking to donate plasma? Here’s everything you need to know to donate at ABO Plasma in Calexico, California at 114 Heffernan Ave, Calexico, CA 92231.
All qualified donors must meet these requirements:
- Ages 18-65
- Weighs at least 110 pounds
- Must live within a 50 mile radius
- No Tattoos or piercings within the last 4 months
- Valid ID
- Permanent address
- Must be in good health
First Time Donor?
If this is your first time donating plasma, you will need to pass a medical history questionnaire and a physical exam.
Please keep in mind that there are several reasons why a prospective donor may get deferred, or be ineligible to donate because they don’t meet the donor requirements.
A temporary deferral may be due to a recent tattoo or pregnancy, antibiotics, and more. A permanent deferral may be due to a chronic disease or long-term medical condition.
How To Get Started
Return donors can walk-in during regular store hours to make a donation.
However, you must make an appointment if you meet any of these criteria:
- You’re a new plasma donor
- Your last plasma donation was 4 months ago or longer (you will need to pass a physical screening)
- Return donors for their annual physical screening
What To Bring
- Valid ID (i.e. Drivers license or military ID)
- Social security card or proof of social security number
- If you’re not a US resident, you must bring a government ID or US visa
- For residents of Mexico, you must bring your valid Border Crossing card
- Proof of local residency (mail from the last 30 days, current lease, utility bill, etc)
Preparation Tips
Before donating your plasma, make sure to:
- Drink 4 to 6 eight-ounce glasses of water, fruit juice, or other caffeine-free beverage at least 2 to 3 hours before donating
- Don’t drink alcohol 24 hours before you donate
- Avoid smoking for 2 to 3 hours before donating
- Eat a meal before coming in to donate
- Get a restful night of sleep
Other Things To Know
- Your first donation will only be used after your second donation is complete
- Your first visit will take the longest due to your physical screening
- Repeat visits take much less time
